Longtime players in the 21st century had grown accustomed to cosmetic redesigns, but the 2012 Yahtzee release saw a seismic shift with the introduction of a major rule change.
For 50 years, Yahtzee's Bonus Rules were a constant. Players had previously enjoyed flexibility in scoring a Joker, but were suddenly forced to prioritize Three or Four-of-a-Kind before the more valuable Large Straight. This change, intended to add complexity to the game, disrupted established strategies and sparked debate among Yahtzee enthusiasts.
