For over 130 years, the World Yahtzee Institute (WYI) has been the global leader in Yahtzee advocacy. What began in an underground publishing house in 19th century Scotland has evolved into the international multimedia conglomerate it is today. The World Yahtzee Institute is a research-driven organization that brings together the greatest minds in modern Yahtzee theory and practice. The WYI is driven to spread the good word of Yahtzee and to foster global efforts to support the game in all its aspects.
The modern game of Yahtzee was created by a dice-rolling couple who were travelling around the world on a yacht. It was introduced to the masses in 1956 when the E.S. Lowe Company purchased the rights to the game and began mass-market commercialization. Yahtzee's origins, however, predate the 20th century with early versions of the game having been played for centuries. Use the Yahtzee history page to learn about how Yahtzee has evolved and expanded over time.
